Skip Shapiro Enterprises has surpassed one billion beverage containers destroyed and recycled. It’s the kind of milestone that takes nearly two decades to reach. We’ve been building toward it since our founding in 2007, one destruction job and one recycling load at a time, through our beverage destruction and recycling services.
A Billion Containers, Two Decades in the Making
Every container in that count represents unsaleable beverage inventory that had to be removed from commerce, with packaging and liquid materials recovered wherever feasible. “Every container represents material that had the opportunity to be recovered,” said Skip Shapiro, founder of Skip Shapiro Enterprises, reflecting on what the milestone means for the team and the partners who helped reach it.
Recovering More Than Just the Can
Our team runs a comprehensive recovery program that manages both containers and liquid contents, and the numbers behind it are substantial: more than 160 million gallons of beverage waste processed to date, more than 72 million pounds of aluminum recycled through beverage destruction, and 87% of beverage packaging recycled across the company’s operations.
For alcohol-containing products specifically, separated liquids can be routed to qualified facilities for distillation, giving ethanol its own recovery pathway rather than letting it go to waste alongside the container.
What Comes After a Billion
The company’s work extends well beyond beverages, into food waste recycling, agricultural waste solutions, and biochar, giving supermarkets, restaurants, farmers, and manufacturers a partner for waste streams far outside a single can or bottle. In June 2026, we also launched BeverageDestruction.com, which builds directly on this milestone, giving beverage businesses an easier way to find the right recovery path for their own packaging and liquid waste — and, as Skip Shapiro put it, to help contribute to the next billion containers recycled
